Some Songs I Like

Howdy folks, it’s been a while since I last posted anything here at UWD so I thought the best way is to post what I’ve been doing the past month or so. The last few mixes I released were over a year ago so I thought it was time to put something out again. These are just some songs I really dig and enjoy playing at the various events I’ve done in the past few months. Take a listen and let me know what you think. I will be posting mixes every 2 weeks just to keep you guys in the loop with hot tracks that are being released.

It’s The Beatles Yellow Submarine Movie

visual and videos 5 November 2009 | 0 Comments

There are those who believe (as I do) that Yellow Submarine is an allegory for World War II, or the Twentieth Century European wars in general. Here are some of the supposed congruences.
Blue Meanies = Nazis This one is fairly easy to state because of the vagueness of the assertion. However, many of the remaining congruences appear to support it.
Pepperland = Europe at Peace
Dreadful Flying Glove = Luftwaffe
Anti-Music Missiles = V1 buzz-bombs
Clowns = V2 rockets – press the button, nothing happens in between, then BOOM at the other end in pepperland.
England = Ally across the water
Beatles = British military, or Americans if you want to push it.
Apple Bonkers = Aerial bombing

…it goes on and on. Admittedly, some of these derive from each other instead of supporting each other; however, it still makes the movie more fun to watch.
The initial invasion of Pepperland equates to the Anschluss and blitzkrieg invasion of Poland. The Lord Mayor’s denial of the invasion represents the air of denial and appeasement that prevailed at the time, and the dispatch of Young Fred to get help signified the Dunkirk debacle.

If we continue on in this vein, the Beatles agreeing to help would represent the people of the Allies agreeing to fight the threat and pitching in as democracies (mostly).

I don’t know to what degree this makes sense and to what degree it’s self-constructed and self-supported, but it does make for fun during viewings.

The point.

visual and videos 4 November 2009 | 0 Comments

The Point, although created as a family film possesses many existentialist concepts. A young boy, Oblio is banished from his home because he lacked a visible point (on the top of his head). Throughout Oblio and Arrow’s (ref: previous nodes) journey from The Land of Point to The Pointed Forest they meet quite a few characters, namely The Rock Man. The Rock Man presents to Oblio and Arrow the idea that, simply because one does not have an apparent/visible point (on the top of their head) they are not in fact pointless, per the reason they were kicked out of The Land of Point.

The Rock Man explains the relationship between the physical point and the theoretical point. As Oblio and Arrow return to The Land of Point after their journey to The Pointed Forest they come to the realization that maybe Oblio’s theoretical point is to infact be, pointless.

In conclusion,
the point of The Point is that everything has a point, even if that point is to be, pointless.

Is Michael Jackson really dead? Thats what TMZ is reporting right now.

LOS ANGELES – Pop icon Michael Jackson died Thursday after suffering a cardiac arrest, the entertainment website TMZ.com reported. The website reported that Jackson, 50, suffered a heart attack just after 12 pm local time (3 am Singapore time) and paramedics were unable to revive him.

Jackson’s manager Tohme E. Tohme was not immediately available for comment when contacted by AFP. Officials at UCLA Medical Center where Jackson was treated also could not be reached for comment.

Can I Get Some Love?!

mixed tape, past events 23 February 2009 | 0 Comments

Today as I was getting dressed and ready to actually get to school on time, I got a message from my buddys from the bay area….NONEWYORK! They sent me a message informing me that today was their big release date for their new NO LOVE EP on Acid JacksIdiot House Records and I immediately got excited. I got excited because not only are they an awesome duo banging out dance floor smashers like Cocaine Bassline and remixing MSTRKRFT, A1 Bassline, and Rockland, but I have a remix of the title track No Love on the release. It is my first official release so forgive me if I promote it a little. Haha.

Anyway these cats are gonna be in Los Angeles this weekend to tear up the club and go crazy, especially when they come hit SABOTAGE with yours truly this Sunday March 1st!!! So keep an ear out for more from these guys, support the release (buy HERE exclusively on Beatport), and catch them on Sunday!

Here are two of their aforementioned remixes plus an AWESOME remix of a Nepo original…

MSTRKRFT-Bounce (NONEWYORK Bassline Remix)

Rockland-You Can’t Stop Californi-Yee (NONEWYORK Remix)

Nepo-No Dance (NONEWYORK Remix)

Love,

Give Me More Fridays

mixed tape, past events, rsvp 14 February 2009 | 0 Comments

So all week I am praying for the weekend to come around, just as most people do, and it is now Friday the 13th strangely enough and I am at home doing absolutely nothing. The the worst thing about this whole situation is that I am bored out of my mind and Pottymouth RecordsSantiago & Bushido are playing in Hollywood tonight, who I really wanted to see and have a new EP out now that you should pick up. Damn that rain! This crazy California weather has me laying in bed on the verge of falling asleep on the computer and its barely 10 something….oh well.

Either way I am pleased to announce my involvement in the San Fernando’s only electronic music dance club SABOTAGE! This club is made up of a collective of local DJ’s and special weekly guest’s offering cheap drinks and an awesome atmosphere in North Hollywood, similar to Los Angeles’ No Culture Wednesday’s at the Echo (also check out their awesome blog HERE). Check it out it’s gonna be good times and do not forget to RSVP HERE. Happy Valentines Day if I don’t see you tomorrow, but most importantly, ladies and gentlemen…PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE wrap it up! ;)

Kaskade ft. Deadmau5-Move for me (Santiago & Bushido Remix)

P.S. The original version of this track was insanely over-played when I was in San Francisco this past December/January on the city’s dance music station. Weird.

C.R.E.A.M.

mixed tape 10 February 2009 | 0 Comments

Yo! So it’s been a very longggggggg time since my last post. You must excuse me, I have been extremely busy with a remix for an upcoming EP release from California’s own minimalist Duilio Pasquale, who I will be featuring soon enough on this blog, but that is neither here nor there.

I got my hands on the second completed remix of my original track “Naked”, and it comes from Miami/Los Angeles’ COFFEE N’ CREAM! These dudes are serving up some very hot bass tracks, so be careful not to get burned! Check out their myspace and show them some love or throw them some C.R.E.A.M for a remix of your track.
